6th Street, Austin: Boots on, pants down, onward to victory

Aug 15 , 2011

On weekend nights, 6th Street Austin is blockaded so no cars can interrupt the energetic debauchery. One of the most fun experiences in all of Texas, this strip of bars and restaurants is a must. Although hundreds of haunts line the Street, these four guarantee a fun night.

Pete’s Dueling Piano Bar

This epic bar is not only famous on 6th Street Austin, but around the country. Started in 1992 in this Texas town, it was originally a one-man show. However, in 1998, they decided to add three additional pianos so four pianists could battle it out. It quickly became a favorite event among the quirky and rowdy 6th Street Austin scene. Now, they’ve expanded to locations across the United States, but the true authentic vibe is strong in the Austin tavern. Sing, clap, dance, and cheer on your favorite pianists. While they hammer on the keys, you can get hammered on tasty drinks.

Jackalope

The bizarre combination of a jackrabbit and antelope has become an icon for the weirdness of the southwest. Of course, as an iconic street, it’s only appropriate that 6th Street Austin has a bar dedicated to this hybrid beast. A notorious dive bar and the “king of daytime drinking,” there are several features that make this spot stand out amongst the other bars on 6th Street Austin. The velvet paintings and padded bar give it an old-school and out-dated vibe, but the friendly bartenders, strong drinks, and diverse crowd make it one of the most enjoyable and funky watering holes in Austin.

Dizzy Rooster

If you loving dancing, specifically on top of bars, than the Dizzy Rooster can certainly accommodate your groove style. The music is excellent and contemporary, the cocktails are strong, and the crowd is wild at this rowdy hotspot. With long happy hours, thousands of signatures on the ceiling, and an unbeatable atmosphere, this bar defines the 6th Street Austin energy and party-style that attracts thousands of visitors to this gem of a location nightly.

The Rooftop on 6th

It’s nice to get outside and enjoy a little breeze in the Texas night. So why not do so while dancing, drinking, and having an amazing time on 6th Street Austin? As the name suggests, the Rooftop is the perfect bar for just that. Known for it’s hit tunes, multiple floors, diverse crowd, massive selection of drinks, open air roof, and finally, the fan powered money booth stuffed with cash, you’ll have and amazing time and possibly get your drinks gratis with a few lucky grabs. With all of this priceless—depending on your hand-eye coordination—fun, The Rooftop is a solid choice for a night out on 6th Street Austin.
