FEATURED Austin hotels
The rapidly growing city of Austin, the capital of Texas, is located on the banks of the Colorado River and was first settled in the 1830's. It became the center of government and education and grew rapidly in the 19th century.
Today, the city's ever climbing sky-line with many new, modern, multistory skyscrapers including stunning Austin Hotels is an indication of its importance in the region and is today home to many company headquarters in the high-tech and business sectors. The city is located in central Texas and boasts three man-made lakes on the Colorado River all within the city limits.
Due to it being at the center of four ecological regions the climate is variable with characteristics of desert, tropics and a wet climate. The summers are, however, generally hot and long with cooler mild winters. Lovely wild flowers bloom throughout the year but especially in spring while the white limestone formations add plenty of interest. Many environmentalist and naturalists as well as interested folk flock to local hotels during the early summer to observe the world's largest urban population of Mexican free tailed Bats. Every evening around sunset they emerge from the Ann W. Richards Congress Avenue Bridge in search of insects and are watched by more than 100,000 viewers each year. In the winter months, they high-tail it back to Mexico and the spectacular is over for another year.
As a guest to any Austin Hotels you will also find plenty of historical and modern sights to enjoy. Lots of museums display artifacts and documents telling the history of this rapidly growing city as well as art galleries with old and modern art exhibitions. The Museum of Popular Culture is one such museum that contributed to the city's reputation for being "weird". Also contributing to this assessment of the city are some of the many statues and landmarks that include the Hyde Park Bar and Grill Fork, the Mangia Dinosaur, the Loca Maria lady, the pink flamingo lawn and the frog mural.
